Hey everyone I have a run on issue that just started to happen. I built a71 c20 from ground up. Since I've been driving the truck I've had no issues. It's the original wire harness (with a few mods and additions).

It's a 3 wire interal regulated alt and the signal wire has a diode in it to prevent run on. And it has been working that way with no issues at all. This just started to happen this morning. Could the diode be bad or is the fault in my ignition switch?

The way I have it wired is from the starter solenoid to the battery post on the alt then from the regulator to the battery post on the alt. The other wire from the regulator to and ignition hot on the fuse box (the diode is in this wire).

The way I'm turning the truck off is disconnecting the wire going to the fuse box.


This is my MAIN driving vehicle the whole family uses this truck so I need to fix it ASAP! All help is welcome thank you

Could the diode be bad or is the fault in my ignition switch?

Get your test light out and check if the ignition switch is indeed cutting the power or not.

What do you mean by run on?
Shut the ignition off and it keeps running smoothly or shut the ignition off and it starts diseiling, trying to keep running, sputtering and rattling!

Well a friend of mine figured it out for me. The diode was bad.

I ment run on as in turn the key off and she's still running like key is on. But all is good now thankfully it was an easy fix.
