I have a feeling I already know the answer to this but I wanted to get a second opinion.

I just ordered a 1000# engine stand for my 351w engine. The problem I have is that one of the 4 holders is missing. I contacted HF (yeah I know) and they are sending me a new holder but it will probably be 1-2 weeks before I get it.

My question is; can the engine be mounted to the stand with 3 holders for a short period of time? I don't plan to work on the engine for a little while but want to get it out of the way so I can start doing other work that can't be done with the engine in place. Is that a terrible idea or is it fine provided I don't start rotating the engine on the stand?

If you were simply using the stand to keep a bare block off the floor but were not planning on working on it or rotating it, you MIGHT get away with it. If this is a complete motor or even a long block I'd be very wary of those fine Chinesium parts.

The very first thing you should do when you get the missing part is throw away all the supplied bolts and buy new grade 5 or better bolts.

Alright thanks. Can I leave the engine on the engine hoist for a week or more or should I just set it on the ground and brace it so it can't tip over?

I would set it on the ground and brace it so it cannot fall over. At the very least leave it hooked up to the engine hoist but rest the engine on the ground so the engine hoist takes up some of the weight.
