Anyone used metal rod/tubing to strengthen their fender wells? Looking for info on size/material.

I have done that a long time ago. I remember I used steel rod. I can't remember what size, I think it was either 5/16 or 3/8. Just weld a little, heat a little bend a little , then weld a little more and keep on doing that till you got the whole thing. Grind it a good and slick and smooth up any rough places with Dyna Glass

I use 3/8" steel fuel line. It is fairly light and strong. Also works pretty well for re-radiusing fender well openings and replaces drip rails over doors.

Thanks for the replies, gents. 3/8" is the right size I need, and I like the idea of the tubing for its lightness. Should be much easier to work with also. Now to find someplace that carries it.
