Ok here's a question, in my Jag I have a center console that needs to be modified because of the B&M shifter I'm using. Can I take the stock console out and make one out of fiberglass by laying the glass over the old console? I need to keep some of the switch holes and but move a few others. What would be the best way to do this. How many layers of glass would make a nice sturdy console. Would carbon fiber be a better choice?

Regards

It is done that way all the time. Just need any old thing to make a mold out of and an old console is great. Cardboard, plaster, wood, styrene poster board, and modeling clay are commonly used to make molds. 4 layers of the hardware store fiberglass mat are plenty for a stand alone console or two should be enough if you are leaving the old one inside. Once hard, can bondo and sand it to a fine finish for paint or fairly smooth for upholstery.
