pvc coping. We had a piece laying around in the shop that was perfect size for the long board sheets and I love it for under bodylines. I think dead body man recommended them to me before but without knowing I shot down the idea cause I thought it would be too hard of a surface. Usually I try to use the tear drop dura block for those areas cause it's the only roundish dura block that stays true, but for the areas around wheel wells it's too short to give you a true read when the dip surrounds the wheel well and is actually bigger than the block. The pvc coping worked wonders for that. Heading to home depot this weekend or try craigslist free section.

When it comes to those odd shaped blocks I have used everything from broom stick to rad hose to a roll of paper towels! I have never used PVC being I have the others but I could see it working well. One of the interesting ones is a formed rad hose that has a little bend, it's straight for six or seven inches and then curved. It really comes in handy.

I've had two sticks of pvc 1/2" and 3/4" in my block box for years along with all the dura blocks I use the pvc all the time, but, believe it or not, one of the handiest blocks you can have is in you hand all the time doing another job..."the plastic bondo squeegie" its fantastic for tight sharp,inside angles,usually I wrap some paper around the edge but sometimes you only want the paper on one side so it only cuts one side of a sharp angle like the inside angle of a body line,or a hood line thats not much more than a crease
.I use them all the time as blocks.

I've got varying diameters of wooden rod I use for the same thing but I'm thinking the PVC won't have the opportunity to warp like wood.

Hard plastic blocks........PVC,lexan, have been using these for years. NOTHING gets a panel straighter. As dbm pointed out the little 3M rubber squeegees work PERFECT for tight inside radiuses where a hard block would leave lines into all your curves.

If I need an absolutely stiff round durablock I use PVC pipe. A 1/2" diameter is really good at getting into body curves with radii too small for the round durablock to fit completely into.

yeah but that surface sounds kind of too hard and the paper won't sand the same. I dunno, that semi stiff dura block rubber is something I'm very fond of if the darn block can stay straight... but let's be honest, most or all those blocks tweak a little bit but not like the round flimsy one.
