I did a search on this forum and the body forum and found nothing related really, so here goes. What do you use to seal up the floor drain plugs when you pull them out? I am going to pull one out in the rear passenger floorboard of my 71 cutlass supreme so I can make sure I repair all the rust. What do you use to seal these things back up?

Or would using fiberglass and steel tape to cover the hole be a bad idea? I know it is kind of cheesey, but I have done it before. I know a little bit how to work with fiberglass. But from what I can tell the drain plug is still good. SO I would prefer to reuse it.

Try seam sealer, available at a paint & body suppply store. Apply with caulking gun. I believe this is how the factory did it...

Either seam sealer or a good grade of silicone caulking. Don't glass them over. That would involve more work than sealing them. Also if they are bad you can buy replacements.

Actually putting the fiberglass in isn't much work. It is cleaning your hands off that is the work. I may accidently have a tube of silicone caulking lying around somewhere down here.

I may wait to get the roof done first as I did a little half *** rust repair down on the floor already. I got up most of the scaly rust, there wasn't much, and most of the surface rust. Not a complete job, but the biggest part of it aside from taking the plug out. And then I sprayed a quick layer of rust converting paint to cover it up till I could really finish the job proper.

But now I have gone off and started on the cleanup of the headliner gunk. I am about a 1/4 of the way through with getting that junk off. I want to get that done before I finish up on the floor because the floor gets really messy when I am scraping that headliner junk off the inside of the roof.

You can go to a dealer and buy a new plug. and just plug it in the hole. Don't think you want to seal it. You never know when you might have to pull the plug again.
