why does my engine surge at a idle sometimes after i warm it up its hard to start after it starts wont idle have toplay with throttle to keep it idling 454 bbc 10-1 compression comp 527 -292 -312 cam high rise open plenum intake 750cfm quick fuel carb also kinda rich at idle cant get below 1100-1200 rpm idle drilled front butterflys and cracked secondarys to give more air for fuel mixture to lean out helped almost out of adjustment on mixture srews

Monitor fuel pressure at the carb inlet for max-max-max 5-6 lbs. If you overpower the needle and seat with more pressure, you will blow raw fuel into the intake manifold and tuning will be impossible. Motor needs more initial ignition timing at the crank, while keeping total timing at or below 38. Try 20 at the crank and 18 in the weights.

i dont know a lot about this kinda new to high performance motors how do i set initial timing do i need to work on the disributor brand new msd street fire change weights or something else ive tried to get below 22 degrees but wont let me just dies or i hav to raise idle a bunch

Possibly an invalid TDC mark on the damper inertia ring that has moved circumferentially in relation to the hub due to degradation of elastomeric material between the inertia ring and the hub. I suggest you read through this tutorial.....

balancer

this is a brand new engine balancer is supposed to be new to dont know what kinda of balancer it is might be a piece of crap just kinda of fustrated with it at 3000rpms engine is pretty smooth set it at 36 degrees timing just hard time starting

Brand new doesn't mean anything if the TDC hash mark on the inertia ring does not coincide with top dead center of the piston. Back to basics dude.
