I have a 32 Harwood car that I bought unfinished that has a Ford .030 over 400M in it. I am not familiar with anything but small block Fords (Windsors). Is this big Cleveland a good choice for a torqer motor for a 2200 # street rod or is it just a Queer duck?

Yes, it is definitely a torquer motor.

Modifications are the same as the 351C, except the 351M/400 has a taller deck height..

I already left a post about the 400m before.
The 400m is basically a 351c with a bigger
stroke, but was way more reliable. When they got
rid of 390's in trucks they replaced them with
the 400m.These engines were considered wheezers
cuz they only made about 165 hp,but they had tons
of torque. We built one in a 1978 ltd thet whooped
up on local mustangs(in the early 90's).
Hot Rod had a good story on how to build basically
400 hp/400+lbs. foot of torque out of these
babies.check it out.

The 400M has a 1 inch taller deck height than the Cleveland and it has the big block transmission bolt pattern. I have 3 of these engines with C6 transmissions. 2 are in a '73 Ranchero 500 and a '74 Ranchero GT. Both of these cars scratch in second even when not getting on it. These are really strong engines and both are factory, get excellent mileage and power with a 2 barrel carb
