Ok guys (350 sbc ) sorry to post again but I just took my water pump off and I found out why I am having some timng problems and surging of my engine. On my cloyes timing cover it has a built in roller button to keep a roller cam from walking. Well when you adjust the roller button to where it needs to be on the outside you put a little screw into the fron of the timing cover to keep it from coming loose. Well I looked at my cover and dam it's not there so it fell off somewhere. So this leaves me to now wan to use it and go back to my old way of just putting in a roller button with a lock plate and put in a regular aluminum timing cover but I don't know how to be able to check my endplay to get it between .005 to .010. I don't have a dial indicator but can borrow one from my dad but how can I get the proper play? Man just when I thought things could not get bad they do  O well hope to hear with some help. I will be using a steel roller type.
Thanks
Eric

Well Fbird I just took my cover out and the news is worse but not overlly bad. The roller button got jamed up into my cam bolt locking plate and it grabed it somehow and stripped it away so the timing cover is scrap now. I just ordered a aluminum cover from jegs along with a new roller button and cam bolt locking plate. I am going to have my dad come down and help me to check for proper end play for the cam. And yes its a roller cam retrofit in a 2 piece rear main seal 350. I am putting in a Lunati Voodoo hydraulic roller cam in place of the big mutha thumpr roller cam. I am guessing I had excessive cam walk and that was part of my issues with timing going in and out with a lot of surging. Thanks for your help man I appreciate a bunch.
Take care
Eric
