Have a 1995 G20 van with a 350 engine. Would like to know how to change the freeze plugs. is it very hard or an it be done within one day. I am mechanically inclined to some things but not sure about the freeze plugs. thanks for the help.

why do you want to change the freeze plugs? there shouldnt be anything wrong with them.. I dont know if your 350 is the same as the older ones but if you wanted to change ALL the plugs it would be a pain. Theres some behind the motor and in front under the timing chain area.
you would have to drop the tranny and take the balancer timing chain off. Unless you have a plug that thats leaking. I wouldnt mess with them.
To answer your question. You will need to drain the coolant or it will spill all over. Just a flat blade screw driver or similar and pry it a little grab some pliers and pull it out. not hard at all

REGALDUDE,

If you need to change one leaking plug, and you ACTUALLY can get to it with the engine in the Car...

(Then Murphy slipped up and missed your house..:D )

Drain all the coolant.

You can get a Screwdriver or punch and hammer, drive it into the plug CAREFULLY..don't go straight in more than an inch while hitting it..Turn the screwdriver sideways with relationship to the block and slide the shaft in further. Pry the plug out a little at a time. Don't let debris fall in the hole.

Clean the edges of the hole out good and dry and Clean, and put a bead of Sealer around the hole. Get a socket that will just fit on the edges of the plug,

(or you if you have the room, use a freeze plug drift tool)

locate the plug Square in the hole (Do not let it offset) Then Tap it a time or two and check to see it's sitting square in the hole.

If it's good, drive it in CAREFULLY until it's just flush with the block.

Fill it with water (save the anti freeze until your sure it's not leaking) and check for leaks...Run it under pressure ETC , and if good, drain enough water and add anti Freeze.

And Your Done!

buddy you're in for a real treat.i have an 85" g-2500 and i just had a freak accident and am now pulling the motor back out.rest assured if you don't cuss now you will before you're done.i can't wait to get my nova done so i don't have to fool with this thing anymore.
