Can anyone point me to a gasket material sheet or tube that is fuel resistant? I cannot seem to find a gasket sealer that says specifically that it is resistant to fuels. Plenty say resistant to oil or 'shop fluids'. But I am looking for something specifically to seal the lid of a fuel cell.

You can buy "sheet neoprene" in different thicknesses. I looked into it a few years ago. I may have found it on google searches, or maybe even ebay.

A "real" auto parts store will have a selection of different gasket materials in sheets about the size of a sheet of paper. One of those should meet your needs. As far as sealers, the old Permatex products (#2, #3 Aviation, Super 300) are fuel-resistant, unless your fuel is alcohol.

Thanks. After I posted this I was thinking, heck I am sure there is some Permatex product that is fuel resistant. So I searched but couldn't find any. I will look for those products.

Permatex #2 is a pasty stuff that comes in a tube like toothpaste. It does stiffen up into a relatively non-gooey state. It never gets completely hard, just to the point that you can barely push a fingernail into it.

Permatex #3 is a thick liquid that comes in a plastic can with a brush under the lid. It's less stiff when it dries than the #2. You can paint some on a porous gasket, let it soak in for a few minutes, then paint a little more on just before installing the gasket. That gasket will peel off pretty much intact even years later, usually cleanly enough that another slathering will allow you to re-use the gasket for a few more years, as long as it's used on the same surface.

Neither is affected by gasoline, but either cleans off easily with alcohol.

Permatex makes a product called "Right Stuff" that looks similar to silicone but needs no skin time and the parts can be put back into service immediately after assembly.

You can get Flourosilicone, or Buna-N through an industrial supply house.

But if this is for a fuel cell, why not just get in contact with a fuel cell manufacture to get the gasket from them?

I've used the Right Stuff. I didn't think it was fuel resistant though.

It's a custom cell so I have nobody I can turn to where their gasket would fit.
