Hi,
I just purchased a 1`965 Chevy that has wiring mess under the dash. There is no spot in the fuse
panel that does not have power when the key is turned off . THE only way to stop the engine is
stop the power going to the ignition. what is the main source of power to the fuse box

I owned a '66 way back when and if I remember correctly on that car, there was a battery connection point just behind the passenger side headlight area? And that lead was the feed for the fuse box. Just a guess but I'm thinking you have a power cross somewhere on the backside of the fuse box. If any of the connectors on the engine side of the firewall where they plug in are damaged or melted that would be an indicator. I would start there anyway and see if removing the connectors one at a time gets rid of the voltage. Of course one of them will contain the feed wire from the battery.
