I've been looking for a gauge set for my 48 p/u. I'm looking for a quad set that will fit and look good. So far it seems that all of the quad sets are 4 3/4" in diameter. Does anyone know of a set that will actually fit the dash without buying one of the overpriced trim rings or am I going to have to modify the holes in the dash? I want the dash to be pretty close to stock looking but don't mind a little modification. I've been looking at the dolphin/shark, TPI, and others that I;ve seen in the mags since they look nice and are reasonably priced. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think that you may be stuck on that gauge deal..I have seens some of those and they are nice looking but they do need some slight alterations to the dash to install..One of the reasons guys wind up with custom instrument panels is that the exact instruments that fit the existing are real spendy so they go with something affordable and make or modify the instrument panel..

What size are the holes? Many vendors like Dolphin, Autometer, Haneline etc have nice 5" quad gauges available. They fit the holes in my '48 Aerosedan. You could check chevsofthe40s.com, they have several styles in 5".

I removed the chrome trim around the factory gauges then used windshield urethane to glue a set of AutoMeter quad gauges into the old trim rings, then made a set of "L" brackets to mount them using the factory mounts, worked out nicely.
