86 caprice 4.3 700r4. Found two wires up by the thermostat. Looked bad. Cleaned the lugs and bolt. Replaced. Took the car out and transmission worked fine. Shifted out fine then slipped out of gear. Would not go back into gear. Foamy fluid . Would messing with this ground do this?

No, but bumping or moving other things around to get too the grounds might

You have 3 or 4 grounds on that engine. The ground by the thermostat does ground something important sensor wise.

But the one that does the trans(directly) is back by the distributior and another on the side of the trans itself.

700R4 wiring is only for converter lock up and if used in 86 an electric speedo. Other than that it’s all mechanical hydraulic.

Foam in the fluid is a sign that the fluid is low. Fluid is check hot with engine running. The 700R4 has a bad habit of the converter check valve leaking which fills the pan when the vehicle has set unoperated for a few hours. This fills the pan and gives a false dipstick reading. It can also be a sign of pump in failure, these pre 1987 versions have a lot of issues that got fixed in the 1987 upgrade.
