I am putting new carpet in next weekend but I cant seem to remove the back seats. I have reached betweem the bottom and back cushion (GROSS...30 years worth of "#$%&". Does anyone know how to get the seat out? Thanx, -M <img src="confused.gif" border="0">
well, you didn't say what year, but in my 69 is pretty simple. Push the back of the back seat back and then slide it up. Then the bottum should come right out with a little push back. Let me know how it works.
umm about pushing the seat back... thats the way it works but in my friends chevelle it needed quite a bit of convincing... so if it don't seem to be moving it just might need alot of force... we did it with 2 people but I reccomend having 3 if it won't budge 2 to push and 1 to lift
Usually rear seat backrests "hang" on 2 or 3 sheet metal "hooks" which come out of the support structure. Sometimes they have tabs at the outside lower corners that have screws in them.
The "pushing back" is actually more "pushing up and back".
The rear seat bottom assembly may have tabs with screws at the front edge, or has locator knuckles in the lower seat structure that socket into depressions under the seat about 2-6 inches in from the front lower edge. Have some helpon each side, pull up and out.
jump on the lower part while pushing back and they will come off the bracket. for the back part push your body into the top part of the seat like you are throwing a block and try to push up at the moment of impact, but first dont forget to remove the two screws at the bottom of the seat back. (this means the bottoms have to come out first-duh)
there is a bracket on each side about a foot from the side of the car for each seat, push/jump in that area
