This car scraped up against another car. It is on the black area of the front bumper on back to the rear quarter wheel opening moulding. It has a small dent on the front fender as well as on the door right at the "VIBE" emblem. All the damage is limited to the one square foot area right at the fender and the door at that emblem. The rest of the damage is the front bumper lower valance (top, painted part undamage), the front fender flare the middle door mouldings (with the front being replaced and the rear being painted only) and the lower rear door moulding and that flare "Wheel opening" moulding on the quarter. The front door lower moulding was spared. One wheel was scraped as I remember as well with it being "remanned", not new.

The white line you see across the lower portion of door is the damage. Though that line was a "paint transfer" from the other car and polished off, as well as across the rear door. The only damage was right around the "VIBE" emblem. But if you follow that line across the bumper and flares you can see where they were damaged.

You can see right at the rear of the front center moulding and the leading edge of the rear one a white look, that is where they are damaged. The front moulding was also damaged right at the VIBE emblem as well.

Damage estimate.....

Hi,very hard to tell the amount of damage,even with my magnifying glass, if the car was mine,id put the insurance companys check in MY pocket,and repair it myself. probably 2 days work. materials would probably be less than $200.00,and MY labor would be free.(im retired) i have to reiterate...(repeat) i really CAN NOT tell the extent of the damage..this is only my SWAG (scientific wild a-- guess) but,knowing body shops,they are going to get all they possibly can,so my estimate for them would be from $1975.00 as a minimun,to $3,000.00. (and could be a LOT higher)

I always get a kick out of the "get all they can get" out of a job way of thinking.

This is how I see it, I don't ask for one more penny than it takes to repair the job as an "industry standard". If I write four hours to repair a dent, it is an "industry standard" and acceptable by the insurance company. If my estimate for repair is ACCEPTED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY, I must not be "overcharging". :sweat:

And if I say it needs all those parts, it is it NEEDS all those parts. If they are part of the claim, they are replaced, end of discussion. The insurance pays it without a question, because......it is part of the claim. If some stupid shop wants to leave off something to get the job they only are putting out an inferior job, if that is what they want, that is fine with me.

Most of the time they are simply too stupid to repair it properly or they bill for the part after the car is in the shop in the form of a "supplement".

Now, why is my est more than another shop, because they missed things! How in the world could a shop repair all the damage connected with the claim and be cheaper? How in the world could that happen? It can't, that's how, if the other shop is cheaper it is because 1. they are giving away work and want to go out of business or 2. they aren't going a complete repair.

I have described the damage and the parts that need to be repaired. I will post a photo of the repair in process is you would like, showing the dent on the door and fender repaired. it was a one square foot area right at the "VIBE" emblem under the mirror. That was it, that was the body damage. The rest of the repair were the parts replaced that I laid out in the original post. The side protect mouldings (the middle of the doors) had to be painted and the front one was replaced as mentioned.

A shop either makes a complete repair, of it doesn't. But they seldom make a complete repair for cheaper. The insured who "cashes out" on the repair and does it for less than that rip off body shop usually leaves a number of things unrepaired or replaced. THAT is how they save money.

HI,i did not mean to suggest that you were a crook.BUT,for every honest body shop,there are at least 10 crooked ones.and if you dont agree with me,you have your head in the sand.AND,we are not even going to talk about overpriced mechanics that use your wheels as a school for themselves and their employees,and overcharge the hell out of us.

The reason I posted this was the crazy price it was because of parts. How about $2900 in parts alone!

Take a look at this parts list. The wheel opening mouldings were (second one down) is $534!!! How about the third one down for $81? You know what that is? How about the quarter inch rubber strip at the edge of the moulding. A 1/4" by 30" long piece of rubber, $81!

Check out the clips for these mouldings (Yep, $534 didn't come with the clips OR the seal) was $171! (line #22). The VIBE emblem, $58! The center moulding on the door, one inch tall by what, 33 or so inches, $205!

What in the living hell is GM thinking? This car will be totaled when the value drops in just a year or so by a scratch down the side!

So if it was mine, I might take the $$$ from the ins co, and NOT fix it - I mean - fix up a VIBE? Why? Why not just drive it with a ding in it?

I have trouble believing the owner actually went to his insurance and to a shop to fix it

If it was mine I hit another car, I'd have left a note for the other car driver, but it was hit by someone else, I likely would not have have even reported it to anyone, just said a couple of bad words and then carried on. (Of course, you have to remember that I am one of those who just never cares what a car - any car - even my hotrods - actually LOOKS like - only what it GOES like)

It's getting hard for me to understand why bits and pieces cost so much. I understand economics reasonably well but this kind of pricing is beyond comprehension :sweat: - I guess I'm beginning to figure out how GM is losing their share in the auto market place.
