So, basically the Hallock was a "windscreen" with no frame around the top edges, intended for roadsters & racers. The DuVall had a perimeter frame that made it suitable for convertibles, etc. Am I right?

As far as I know, yes. But I'm not an expert on the subject.
I just think they both looks cool and since I already have managed to make the Duvall style, why not make one in the Hallock style as well?

The Halloc windscreen is finished.
I added the Duvall screen i made 15 years ago for a comparasion.
Since I'm repainting the cowl, I have no photos of them on the car.
