It's not a transformer. They are used of A/C systems.
It must be a DC/DC converter.

Check with the manufacturer of your ignition system before trying it.
For the price of the booster $275 you could buy a high output coil.

Make sure your battery is in good condition and fully charged.

Agreed with Vicrod, It must be some kind of step up transformer driven by some type of "Chopper" Transistors, with a duty cycle..If I were to guess, Be interesting to "Peek" inside..Current output must be limited (as small as that looks).

Lot of money for +3 volts..

Have you looked into an 18 volt battery pricing? Less parts to fail..

No, I'm not all that interested in it. A guy I work with is though. He thinks it would be a good addition to his DUI ignition system in his hot rod. Not worth it in my opinion.

ETA, you could buy a MSD 6AL for less.
