i just replaced the blown head gaskets on my sbc 350. i set the valves(i think correctly) and its having trouble starting. I primed the carb and it turns over very rough and runs very very hard for 2 seconds and dies. Im not sure if thats due to incorrect valve set or the distributor. i hope im really close to getting this truck running again. Any suggestions at all is a help. Thanks in advance.

Check your timing. Sounds like your distributors in wrong. A sure way to know if it is, is it will back fire thru the Carb. Or spark plugs wires on wrong.

if u have a manual there is or should be, a part that tells u which valve to adjust at TDC and one full turn of crank. have u tried to adj the diz when it's kinda running.. gotta be fast if it's not going to stay.. but u put the diz in correctly it just sounds like it's off.

yeah it backfired through the carb. Thats good news, it should be an easy fix. Thanks
