Hi,

Have a question for Headers / Exhaust system specialist,

I want to have the best exhaust system as possible for my engine.

I'm about to choose headers for my engine.

421 SBC, 11.0 CR. 6800 rpm mechanical bullet camshaft, 1050 carb....etc..(was not choose the stall yet..., waith on dyno number before to make choice of stall and gear)

For my application ....mostly street but Need the have the best torque and HP possible for my car (Nova SS 74)...

I see allot of Headers....I always chose Hooker in the past...

Right now...I have the choice of 1 7/8 - 2 inch primary tube diameter or maybe 1 3/4.....I think 1 3/4 will be too small......

What will be the best way to follow...

I was thinking choosing 1 7/8 primary and 3.5 collector down to 3inch double exhaust system...with muffler...(dont know what kind of muffler to choose)....always go with flowmaster (50 series deltaflow)....but the cops in my town...are crazy since a couple of month...about the excessive sound.

I need a muffler that flow and doesnt alert / wake up all the neighbourhood when I start my car...

Any Idea / suggestion...from exhaust guru here...!!!

Dynomax-Ultra Flo or CherryBomb-Vortex mufflers.
Are you going to run full exhaust out the back or other.
Most Dyno shops have several sizes of headers so you may want to see what makes the most power there before you choose your primary size.
If a full system you could go 3" from headers to mufflers with 2-1/2" tail pipes. As the exhaust cools farther back smaller tailpipes can be used + they're easier to fit over the axle.

A somewhat surprising event on dyno runs with different sized tubes of headers on an otherwise static engine configuration show that, within reason, headers with larger than necessary tubes don't degrage torque or horsepower to any extent worth worrying about.

I see your mufflers...I really can't put this on my car...I need to have a oval muffler..or the cops will always..give me sounds tickets...The muffler need to have the original oval shape at least....

Can I asked you why 1 7/8 primary and not 2 inch primary headers ????

I really enjoy to put a full exhaust system and put tailpipe under the bumper...but I was putting a mini-tub kit and put the leaf spring inwards...so no room left (that's I was looking rapidly)....to put tailpipe like the original one on my nova...maybe...putting a fabricated exhaust by a muffler shop!!!!...Really dont know..!!!!

I would run the 2 inch primary tubes. I would use an X pipe before the mufflers and run the 20 inch case 3 inch Dynomax super turbo mufflers. The X pipe will allow the mufflers to share some of the exhaust flow. These are quiet for a high performance muffler.

It might be a smart move to install cutouts in the system in case you want the uncapped sound.
