Today I re-tested everything on my HEI system on my 80 monte carlo. The pickup coil did not test correct. I put one lead in distributor body and the other on terminal on pickup coil it showed infinite, so that ok. Then I put both multi meter leads on pickup coil terminals it showed infinite again instead of 800-1500ohms. How can this be its a brand new distributor? Can I fix this without replacing pickup coil i.e. is there a ground wire I should be aware of? Because like Is aid its a brand new distributor.
P.S. there is bare wire near the pickup coil in the distributor housing coming from the ECM harness would that cause any issues?

its a AC/Delco distributor so thats why im hesitant to switch pickup coil and its a ***** to change it from what ive heard.
Can you take it back from where you bought it. Removing and intalling a pickup coil is not that hard. Mark the gear and housing with a sharpie, punch the roll pin out carefully. Remove the gear note the orientation of the shims. Remove the shaft, springs and weights can be removed or kept on. Then remove the retaining clip that keeps the pickup in place. Unplug it from the module and remove. Reverse install and use a new retaining clip that comes with the new pickup coil.
