Hey Everyone,
Im new to this forum, and I found it because I am trying to find information about my 1983 chevy s10. I just got it not to long ago, and I am having trouble figuring out what one of the lights means in the dashboard. The lights are in the center, It goes BRAKE on the bottom, than the CHECK ENGINE light is above that, and then there is another symbol on top. It is not a word, but it looks something like this. l / l It looks something like that with a dot in the middle of the diaganal line. Im stumped on what this symbol could represent, and now it stays on when I start up the truck. I looked all over the net to get an answer, but I have found nothing. I thought it might be the oil light, but I was mistaken when I put oil in and the light still comes on. Please, anyone that has an answer or an idea of what it may be, help. I need to find out so I can correct the problem so it will not come on anymore! Thanks a bunch to whoever has taken the time to read this.

Have you noticed a giant loss of fuel economy and the exhaust burning your eyes since this light coming on?

Or maybe it's been "cold natured" in the mornings lately?

You might wanna have a look at the choke.

Been there, done that

My very first new vehicle, a 82 s15 GMC .
Same problem, drove me nuts. Didn't trust the dealer. Didn't want to go there. Finally solved the problem.
The symbol represents the choke. Long story short-- The alternator has 3 windings, if one fails, it will still charge the battery but will not energize the choke relay. Get your alt checked out. Think I'm off my nut??? Look at a wiring diagram, see what feeds the choke relay.
