This is my first attempt at a chop top. I'm planning on chopping 3" and at the same time I want to slant the door posts for a different look.
I have a 51 chev coupe 2 door post. My question is...What do I do with the glass? Is there a supplier for narrower windshields? Can the glass be cut? I need help!!!!

As for your glass there is no supplyer for narrower glass, all chopped tops have the glass custom cut for the application. Go to your local glass shop or windsheild repair replacment shop and they will do it for you.

I'll have more questions once I Chop the roof. Maybe I'll end up with a convertible!!!!

I have been told that you can't cut the back glass, better check. Most just change angle. HK would know more.

I am an expert, I've done one chop! OK, ha,ha. But in any event, there is a very good book available from Amazaon.com named "How to Chop Tops", by Tex Smith. It is considered the Bible of the top chop art. I recommend you buy it.

There is a good article in the Feb 2003 issue of Rod & Custom magazine on the chop of a shoebox ford. All the principles apply to your car. Take a look.

The back glass and frame needs to be cut out and then reinserted in the chop. This is because the glass cannot be cut.

Don't start this project until you consider yourself proficient with a mig wire feed welder and you will need a sawzall, and air cut off tools and a nibbler is helpful.

I can tell you that it is a pretty complex job.

F-1, I've got all the tools and equipment. I,ve got the time and I,ve got the guts, so there's not much holding me back but the experience. Gotta learn sometime!!! Just trying to get all the info together before I go wild with the sawzall. Thanks again.

you have every thing you need sounds like to me
i have years of experience in this sort of thing
i found that precision and knowing for sure how to do exactly what you want to accomplish, by studying,before cutting and welding will yeald excellent results even by a novis. oh tac and fit before welding
