Hi I have a 1972 C20 4 speed manual transmission 8-lug wheels and 4.11 rear end gearing im going to be putting a 350 in it and was wanting to know if it will help the rear end at all beacuse it has a 250 straight 6 in it know and it red lines at 65 and was wanting to know if putting a bigger engine in it will help? Thanks.

Hi,I'm not quite sure just what your after, If you put a 350 cid engine in there without changing the rear gears your top end will still be limited to maybe 110mph only because the 350 will be able to rev higher (more RPMs) you'll be able to light the tires up with it but you'll also use a lot of gas.
What is it your after?

65-70 is all the faster you will want to be going.
Gonna be spinning close to 33-3400.

Had a 78 4x4 with the 4-10 gears and full time 4x4
65-70 is all the fasterr it wanted to go and 55-60 is
where it wanted to run.

Engine size is not going to make a difference

To help the rpm´s you would want to go with a taller gear. Maybe 373 or even 308 depending on what you want or if you have a very short tire sidewall you could go with a taller tire. It all depends on whatyou want and what you use the truck for.
Can you tell us some more. Whaat do you want the truck to do. Work truk, race or just cruise. What size tires do you have. Things like that could help with the right answer.
