http://thomas.loc.gov/ the bill, you have to type it in, is HR 163

the companion bill is S 89

by the way, the bill is sponsored by Rangel from new york, McDermott, from washington state, Lewis of georgia, Stark, Conyers, and, Abercrombie from hawaii. they are ALL democrats

it drafts men and women

That just plain sucks!

No one should have to go into the military if he/she chooses not to. I remember the draft in my time....they pulled numbers...I was like 317 but I joined the Navy. There is something very wrong with this ****!

I hear ya tazz, but what doesn't make sense to me, is most of the people in congress right now are probably vietnam age and should remember how wrong the draft was in the first place!!

This is old news. Charlie Wrangle has been trying to bring back the draft for years. He is an old Dog Face himself and realizes what the mandatory draft did for him and he wants to reach out and touch a lot of young people to help them better them selves. Want to take bets on the chances of this passing?

I wouldn't worry about it much. It's been buried in sub-committee since it was introduced, and It's only a house bill. It has a very long way to go before it ever gets to a vote.

By the way, I feel that every young person should serve some time (a year or two) in either the military or some other government service program, without exception. Too many young people in today's society feel the government or country owes them everything. They seem to forget that the freedoms they have didn't come without someone else's sacrifice and if it wasn't for our military they're self righteous little world would be a he11 of a lot different.

Trees you ruined it, I was hoping to see how more people felt about a draft while they thought this was 100% legitimate.

We discussed this in political science, they're is really no way the draft would be reinstated under the current circumstances. World War III would have to occur before they're was any involuntary service.

Centerline.... I have to agree with you wholeheartedly. I think everyone should serve in someway. No exceptions of any kind for anyone. My feelings are that they should serve in the military or some other service. Military would get to serve 1/2 the time as the alternatives.

I remember the air-raid drills in grade school. The pledge of allegiance in the morning at school. Then the serving in the military. I still get choked up hearing the National Anthem at sporting events. I also get irritated seeing people that are talking and wearing hats during it.

I think that the kids growing up need to learn what gave them the rights and freedoms that they have. I also think that the polititions would think twice before sending our troops in harms way if they knew that their relatives had to serve, no matter how important/rich their friends/relatives are.

btw, I agree with the mandiory service like center said. I certainly could have used it, I forced myself through college, and I still don't know what I'm supposed to do. I think the army would allow people to get a real view of society. Bet my paycheck you'd have fewer felons in the society too!

Canada here i come! :D
LOL

If WWIII ever breaks out running to Canada won't help...our Gov't would invoke our form of the draft called "Conscription".
IF you came here you'd get the call as well but you'd end up serving in the saddest military force on the planet..the "Canadian Armed Forces"... underfunded, undermanned, blah, blah, blah.
Our largest shopping mall in Edmonton Alberta actually has more functioning submarines (in a tourist attraction) than the Canadian navy has in the fleet...or at least that's how the joke goes.

If I were you I'd stay put and if the draft happens at least you'd serve in an army where your *** won't get handed to you the minute you step on the battlefield.

I have a question for you military guys, I was told I'm exempt from a draft because of my asthma. Do you think that's true?
100%, asthma is an automatic disqualification. Only exception is if it went away before you turned 12.

As for the draft... IMO, it should only be instated if the supply of military is for some reason below what it needs to be.
IE major war breaks out.... The military is only so big, and after a while (sorry) enough soliders will die & There needs to be SOMEONE to defend the country. Yet people dont seem to understand that fact.

You won't ever see a draft as long as we have Nuclear superiority.

Here's a great one. During Grenada, I went to join the Airforce. Scored extremely high on the entrance test (Missed one question) Was offered Officer training school, but I had to lose 8 pounds. Had to get to 220#. Couldn't do it. I could bench 375#, curl 195# with my back against the wall, do over 100 pullups non-stop. Body fat was around 4% at the time. Wore a 50" jacket with 34" waist, 19-1/2" Bicep, 24" thigh. One question has plaqued me for over 20 years. How did Arnold get in the Army in all these movies? :drunk:

I scored an 89 on my asvab(afqt) when I was a senior in high school. I wanted to enlist for a certain occupation....they didn't want to sign me up for it....so I decide not to go. They tried like hell to get me to enlist by using several tactics. Threats, intimidation, begging, making me wait all day before I could leave, telling me that I couldn't use the phone to find a ride home(60 miles away), telling me if I signed they would take me home.... So I played along and outsmarted the recruiter at his own game. They should use some of the smarter folks to do that job:p

Canada....its too cold for me there. Just commit a felony. Serve your 2-3 years in the pen during wartime and let the state government take better care of you than the military would.
Personally I would wait it out....I seriously doubt that I would be affected by the draft if they did reinstate it. Too many medical problems too be considered now.
