why it has bad rev.

I put it into rev. and sit there and giveing it gas (alot) and it doesn't go any were then it will after a minute or two. I notice to day that it doesn't go into first gear maybe some one swaped the tran. and for go to change what the dash said. but yah to day also I looked at the trans fluid after I notice it wouldn't shift into 1st and I all most died ! there wasn't any but a just a tiny
little on the very end of the stick I only drove it 5 miles with the fluid like that but it had the rev. problem before I drove it that far. But still I don't want that heavy automatic. after all it is 38 years old.

hi there, well that trany sounds like its a gonner for sure

anwyays uhmm some ford trannies will bolt up to GM bellhousings but not all of them..

i dont know what makes you specifically want a ford tranny behind it or what makes you believe thats what to have behind it but ford used many different models of 4 speed trannies just like GM and others did,
most were saginaw -in which both gm and ford used a billion of over the years 0since at least the mid '60s

a 9 bolt ?

ford didnt make a 9 bolt that im aware of lol

the only 9 bolt axle i know of is the Borg Warner 9 bolt found under the 86 and up GM F-bodies

do you mean a 9" ford ??

are you sure you want to tackle such a thing as this without knowing much at all ?

i hope you know someone near you who knows older vehicles and will help you out,

good luck

69 Wildcat most likely has a Turbo400 trans, which is as about as heavy duty as you can get..........along with a 12 bolt rearend......same story.

Top up the fluid in your tranny, try it...............If it still doesnt work, get the Turbo400 rebuilt......................

Like you said................"Newbi here I don't know much about car's and trying to learn."

Listen and learn.

Well, then you are going to have to find a bellhousing, out of a Buick/Pontiac/Olds..............and total clutch assembly, pedals linkages, the whole 9 yards to fit your Wildcat which is probably very hard to find.

The Turbo400 with a shift kit is a very strong hi-perf tranny.....................

Why do I feel I am just blowing in the wind..........???

If your tranny needs rebuilding anyways, get them to install a shift kit when they rebuild it.

I'm gonna harp at you some more.....A Buick Wildcat was not designed as a drag car.......it is very heavy. It would probably be fine as a consistant bracket racer, but would likely never be very fast. If you want to go fast, get a much lighter car...............Maybe, put that 430 in a Skylark.

"oh what country is poncho62 from?"

You must be from........middleofnowhere, if you dont know where Canada is..........part of it is right next to Maine.

Actually GM Chevrolet made a 9 bolt drop out carrier back in the 50s.. used in the Tri-5s...... it sort of looked like a Ford 9"..... but I am sure he means a Ford 9"

Actually had an old guy life long mechanic at a yard spend 5 minutes trying to sell me a 9 bolt Chev as a Ford 9"...... finally I couldn't stand it any more and showed him the GM cast into the housing.

Anyway that 69 Buick rear end is plenty stout. I suggest you get that 69 TH-400 trans repaired and drive the car. Have fun.

edited= I promise you, it will be a whole lot cheaper to fix the TH-400 than to get what is necessary to put Ford stick stuff in a Buick auto trans car.

You might even get that sucker in the low 15s in the quarter.

The bottom line is I'am can't afford some one to rebuilt It so are we sure that it's gonzo? I will put some fluid in it this week and see how it does. How is a shifter kit diffrent then standered is there a clutch and all? I know the weight of the car and how heavy it is I need a motor to make 600hp to get low 13 at the 1/4 mile I failed to menchion that I can get a 1968 plymouth
something It look's like a duster but it has a straight 6 in it. maybe I will pull the 430 and the tran.I'am considering what to do I like the look of the wild cat though Oh is a aluminum drive shaft realy lighter then a stock one? kinda of subject But yah thanx guy's for the help. Realy need to know if the tran's is toast or not before any major thing are done.

A shift kit will not make your car a manual.

what does a shift kit do?
TH350 and TH400 transmissions are operated by means of a hydrualic system. By changing some fluid paths, weights, etc you can make the car shift differently.

What shift kit should I get?
Stage 1-2 Shift Kits are good for street/strip use. They make firmer harder shifts.
Stage 3 Shift kits offer a FULL manualy "style". The shifts are also extremely quick and hard. Basically there is no "drive" in an automatic transmission after this. You must put the transmission in first gear, then second, then third all manually. Its like a manual transmission but you don't get the bonus of a clutch.

If you can't afford to rebuild your th400 then you are dead out of luck. Have you shopped around yet? They are amazingly cheap to have rebuilt. It would have cost me about $400 to have my th350 rebuilt when it went last fall. Of course I would have had to pull it myself and I did. But I'm only 16 and I'll tell you this much. Its not that hard. I ended up buying a rebuilt th350 that already had a stage 3 shift kit in it. For all of about $400 I had the new transmission in my car with a B&M ratchet shifter(used off ebay). I can't wait to drive the car this spring. I've been told at high RPM's the trasmission will slam into gear so quick the whole vehicle will shake. But I'll have to wait and see.

Anyway, thats my advise. Some of it may be a little off in reguards to how the shift kit does what it does. But the outcome I gave is correct.

I know were freaken cannada is I been there I lived on pei Now you need passport's to go.

Only if you fly, and you need them to fly back into the USA.
This is what the American people have been wanting.... border security?

But if you're Hispanic the Feds might rent you a limo to get you home.

Ironic isn't it.
We can't fly back in without it, but they can come across the South border illegally and get social benefits.
