I want to media blast and spray epoxy on my firewall. This is a 1978 Fire Bird.

I removed the master cylinder. I removed the 4 nuts holding the brake booster to the fire wall. When I slid the booster out i noticed a pin on the rod that connects the pedal to the booster. I removed that.

Do I just yank the booster out? I am afraid I might've missed something because I did a bunch of yanking and it hasn't budged. I would hate to break something.

The rod and bolts should be the only thing holding it in..chances are it's probably just stuck.

I think you're right. My light broke the other day, just replaced the bulb. Tommorow I will look again with my light so I won't be feeling around like a blind guy.

Also does the brake booster come apart? The vacuum/plunger unit looks like it can twist apart. It would be nice to check it to see if it is worn out or not.

Funny, I worked two years in a dealership. I did lots of brake work but never replaced a brake booster.

I wouldn't take it apart.. Pretty sure it's a sealed unit. Only real way to tell if they're worn out is if they leak vacuum..

I got the booster out. Turns out the link was a bit bent.

Far as testing the booster. Would I do something like use a mity vac pump, you know the ones that go with the brake bleeder kit?

Brake booster have a large spring inside. The rebuilders have a fixture that they use to disassemble and assemble them.It's near impossible to get one back together right without the fixture.

Thanks, judging from the edges it did look like it could twist off. Obviously why I was asking.
