It's the drivers door for my 78 Firebird. I can't figure out how to detach the cable switch from the housing that goes on the door panel.

there is a tiny allen screw in the innderdoor panel trim piece that the joystick feeds through

you'll see it on the backside of that chrome trim plate.. near the joystick ball..

Really? I must have overlooked it then. I'll look again tommorow and see.

A set I had one time had a wire clip that clipped into two holes in the square trim housing. You unclipped it and the joystick barrel slid out and fits through the hole in the door. Knowing GM, they likely changed things over the years to keep ya guessing.

That was excellent Andy...I had a good laugh...my wife's not home but she's got this one particular pole at the local mall that was built just for that purpose and she could tell you where it is...come to think of it, it may not work for everybody but I do know it's worked for her twice.

Yep your right. That is what it is.

I actually just got done with it and was gonna post but you beat me to it. I was looking at it and was wondering what the wire clip was that was just kind of hanging there. I mean it must serve some purpose little did I know it was actually holding it in. I didn't want to break it but figured if I did I would just have to replace it and just yanked the wire off and it came apart.
