I am looking for ideas on where to start planning out how to make the front clip,(hood, fenders, wheel wells), to tilt to the front. This is on a 77 F150 4X4.
I have found the fiber glass kit, but I wanted to use the original sheet metal.
I have read about a "Knee Joint", hinge but I have never seen one. Thanks For any help

Tilt clip

Don't know how nice you want everything, but one of the most simple front hinges I've seen was like a giant bicycle chain. It used two links of chain, whith one welded to the frame and the other rotated. The second link was pinned to the core support. To open the front end, you would lift and pull the front end of the truck which released the rear pins. The rear pins are simply rods extending from the rear of the hood that slide into a hole on the firewall to keep it in place. He also had a piece of angle iron below the hole to help the rod slide into place. Cheap clasps held the whole thing tight. Other than that, it was just relocating everything and chopping up the core support.

I work on semis for a job. They all got tilt front ends. :D
Might be something to look at. They all have a little different setup, but most use a bar with a bolt through rubber where it pivets, two hinges that bolt to the front of the hood or sides of the fenders. Then there is usually a spring and cables that hold the hood in the open position, as well as help with opening and closing, and they bolt up on the radiator support. Some use a shock here, but how cool if you could use some sort of ram or something here so it could be opened hydraulicly or electrically but would need something to latch and unlatch too, or while your out on latching the hood, you might as well do the flipping too. There is also a pin? at the rear of the hood/fenders that goes into a pocket where it closes and a spring type latch to lock it closed.

Small suggestions can Snowball

Kenseth17 and Powerrodsmike this is what I was hopeing to here. I have been looking at old posts just didn't have time to look at everyone and your post number and link helps zero in on what I'm trying to do. Powerrodmike after reading your post I feel like DEE DA DEEEE!!!!. I too work around the same trucks only dump trucks all day. And they too have the tilt front ends. In fact yesterday I was tilting one forward to look at the air intake. See how STUPID I feel right now!!! Any way I was wondering do I include the bumper with the clip or do I lift and tilt over the bumper. And how extensive a frame is needed to stiffen the hood and fenders together? Thanks again for the replies!!

hey great idea, I tilted my 67 Chevy, first thing I did was to fab my hinges out of 3/8" plate attached to core support and frame used 1/2" pipe for pivot point, once I had hinges welded in place started removing core to frame mounts, I don't know how the radiator is mounted to core support on your truck, but I had too fab supports to hold radiator so it would be free from core support, next removed hood hinges, latch, rubber bumpers, and relocated all wiring to frame, also had to move battery to fire wall, next welded hood to fenders, I then cut the fenders from the point where the hood ended at the cawl at a 15 degree angel towards the from of the truck through the fender well, now I could tilt the front end forward, at the cut lines I filled the two areas with 1/4" plate welded in 1/2" rod stock to make guide pins to keep fender lined up, used a eletric trunk latch out of a caddy mounted on the fire wall this was great because once the hood latched the electric latch pulled the hood down tight, i also installed neumatic rams to lift hood, its a lot of work put it sure paid off, truck won alot of awards, I lost the truck in a divorce along with pics, live and learn :(
