According to "Performance American Style", the max limit you can bore a 304 is .125 over (3.75 to 3.875). If you do this, you can then use stock bore 4.0L pistons. I did this to my 304 and bought coated hyper pistons, but haven't assembled it yet for testing.

well, I'm the resident AMC guru.... confirming what Techinspector posted! I'd have the machine shop sonic check the walls before buying pistons, as 0.125" is the max you can bore the block. That might be enough for 360 valves to clear the bore walls, but they will be close! Better to just put slightly larger valves in the 304 heads.
