I was wondering if anybody knew the weight numbers on these engines, cast iron engines only and with cast exhaust manifolds would be grate !!!

I have heard really much about the bbc begin so much heavier than the sbc, but then again i have also heard it is only 100 lbs heavier !

What are the true weight numbers

a SBC weighs approximately 575#, BB about 685#.

...and all that would depend on which sbc and which bbc.

SBC's are 265, 283, 327, 305, 350, 400,...etc and BBC are 366, 396, 427, 454, ..... !

Interesting, I've always been told that big blocks were so much heaver than a small block. But it looks like there only about 100-125 pounds more than a small block.

I have a 396 with cast iron heads and aluminium intake, and i am putting it into an old Jeep CJ5
