I've got an old 81 Ford Escort Wagon we've been tearing apart to retro-mod.

Ill give you guys a few moments to clean up that spilled coffee...

Anyways we're going to transform it into an ambulance, because well you always see the old cop cars restored, and it just has some neat lines, that and my girlfriend agreed to dress up with the car in matching attire :D

My first question is before I shave the existing tails, how do THESE mount up? Will I be able to mount them after shaving the taillights of will I need to get into the old bucket in order to run wires or thread bolts? The back photo doesn't give me enough information as I'm not familiar with them.

I have many many questions on where to find some parts but they are not as urgent as I'm trying to get the body ready as soon as possible. Only a patch of rust in a wheel well thus far!

Also, anyone know of a good car to cannibalize some round headlight assemblies from? Preferably not sealed beams. Going to alter the front to the old four circle light assemblies but dont know if its possible without going the sealed route.

Heh I know what the tail lights look like...lets see the girlfriend LOL

I commend your enthusiasm but Im confused as hell as to 'why'

Most old round sealed beam cars have Halogen replacements available. You need something smaller though, like from a Mini cooper or a Vega. Whatever you choose, I would use part of that cars fenders to graft everything in. Ive seen the newer mercedes round headlights used but they're big and raked back

As a Moderator here ... I WELCOME YOU here :welcome: :welcome:

As man who has owned a few 1940 Fords ... the tail lights do not set flush to a flat panel. Ford had a reinforcing bracket built into the rear fender and they even came in Right and Left hand sides.

I got this photo off the internet but look at the high ridge crown going down the rear fender. The tail lights fit on that ridge ...

I hated to see it go to the crusher! the interior is perfecto minus sagging headliner, that old red interior!

Also this allows me to learn on something more disposable in comparason to my 03 ranger.( shaving fiberglass etc)

As for the lights, I plan on buying the old assembly that has a full grill if available that covers the headlihghts (think 78 f100 ranger) that way I can cut and graft them easier.

As for the taillights, Im wondering if the ones I found that say flush are truely flush? Ive seen these used on trailers before?
