so im not much of a hotrodder as of yet. im an ol datsun 510 guy and latley ive been thinking when i finish this project 72 510 wagon im a gonna start building me an ol chevy ii gasser.
my ol man was an ol chevy head in his day and im getting older (30 this year) and its time to stop playing games. i figure if i spend all my money on cars i minght as well start working on the one i always wanted going to car shows with me pops as a youngster.
also im well aware that im no mechanic god, so for give me if i ask a few rookie questions.
for starters how can point me tward some good reading on the first days of building AWB funny cars? i want all the old reading i can get my hands on for what folks were building in there garage in the mid 60's. every thing ive found is new and for the richer. i want to know all my options how regular folks were building 10 sec. cars as simple as posible.

Wagons are cool!

I saw your post and I couldn't resist. I had a 72 510 wagon, I bought it from a school teacher for $500. It had the cleanest oil I've ever seen, it ran like a top. When I decided to sell it, the guy that bought it was building an autocross car. He said that the wagon doors were smaller than the sedan doors, so he could shorten his car by using the wagon doors. Seemed like a lot of work and money to me, but he said it was worth it because the shorter wheelbase was much faster on the autocross course.
