ok guys so i have a mild 383 build up its got about 9.5:1 comp ratio and the came is the comp cams 274 .490 230 and 236 well this is going into an 87 iroc camaro and was wonderin how the ecm is going to like that cam. it a tpi setup and its gonna stay that way.

Is this the stock ECM? If so it`s not gonna run too well.
First off, the ECM don`t know you moved the cubic inches up, and it`s fuel table is set for the engine that came in the car.
Secondly, the vacuum signal is the link between the engine and the computer that determines the load on the engine, it controls how much fuel it gets as well as spark advance, the bigger cam will make the engine have less vacuum, and that will make the computer think your in the throttle when your not and the car will run rich. It needs to have 16 inches of vacuum, and with that cam it`s not likely going to. Your going to need to have the changes made to the computer and the chip.

It was only 09/12/04 that you were considering stroking the original 305. Now you have a 383? :confused: Well, if so, you made the right choice :thumbup:

Based on your most recent posts, it is clear you now little if anything regarding the TPI system. I would recommend that you take some time to read TPIS' "Insider Hints Handbook" before you go any further with your TPI project, regardless of the engine you build.

Your ECM will require a custom chip to deal with the increased fuel requirements and deal with vacuum problems just as DoubleVision said earlier. Furthermore, there is no way your stock 305 injectors will handle a 383. Maybe a 350 with increased fuel pressure and a mild build-up. But all of this and much, much more is discussed in the TPIS handbook.

After you read this book, make a written list of you what you want to do with this engine and car. That way you realistically define your goals and most importantly, you can put dollar figures on each item. A third gen. Camaro is a great car for a project such as yours. But since you are starting with a stock car, you will also need to consider upgrading things like exhaust, cooling/radiator, converter, traction (i.e. torque arm), etc when you upgrade the engine. You will be spending a great deal of money and at 17, that's a lot burgars flipped, or maybe that's not an issue since mom and dad are footing the bill.

Everything I am only telling you is from first hand experience (lessons learned). Read the book, make a list, and then you will have a solid basis for your project. There is no sense in running every single question you have on this board, especially when less than half the information required to answer the question(s) is posted.

You will want to re-chip the computer. However, the 87 ECM is not run based on the vaccum in the system. While vaccum does help control the fuel pressure regulator, the system is run based off the Mass Airflow Sensor and will not be as affected by the change in vaccum.
