Hello Hot Rodders!
I am not a Hot Rod gal..I like them but I don't know much about them except most of them are cute and they go fast.
The purpose of registered for this group is for an idea of a name
I am a seamstress/embroiderer
I have a customer that builds, fixes,repairs Hot Rods ..Which I figure most of you guys and gals probably fix your own ..which is great.
Well he is starting a business doing such and needs a WOW catchy name to say what he does and thats why I am here to help him ..with your help
please let me know of an idea much appreciated and if any of you need sewing/embroidery done..just ask me

It would help if you posted some photos of your work when you do.

On the other note... search some of the threads allready posted here in the near past as that has been a pretty indepth discussion here previously.

We get these name my business questions from time to time....My thoughts on it are that a name is such a personal thing that someone would have to know a lot about the person and what goes on in the business, that the best person to name it is that person....if that makes any sense......lol

I don't like cutesy names, and especially graphics I can't read. I like it plain and simple. Jacks Transmission Repair, says it all simple and plain. Jacks Beanstalk Transmissions would be just plain stupid, but someone would think it is cute.

I am with you, we have discussed it before. The reason street signs are in normal font and simple words is we want them READ not someone trying to figure out what it means.

By reading my Business name you know what I do and since it has my true name in it ..it is not a fictious name either.
I also do little things when I write/print something such as so is always sew unless its a "legal" document.
I throw a stitch in here and there and I really don't mind if someone needles me and I WILL pinprick them back LOL
some may think all this is stupid..I really don't care everyone is entitled to there opinion as I am.
I love life and I just wana have fun.. I try to make even the grumpy smile

That is an excellent name for your business! You name is in it, many people connect with your personal name while it clearly says what you do, very good.

The suggestions on your friends shops name is simply that suggestions. What is his name? Even just first or last if you don't want to give that out.

Greg's street rods would be fine, it's not so much the name as what kind of work does he do. Word of mouth will get around fast, if he does good work or bad. You look at the good shops most of them that I know of don't have catchy names. I would follow their lead. Great work will get them in the door.

I agree, "Greg's Hotrod shop" anything like that is better than some clever name that you THINK people will remember but they don't. "Clever" is often "clever" to the person who thought of it, then a hand full of others. Simple, well that is simple to most anyone. For someone who knows nothing about you, to find you is the most important part, a simple name explaining what you do is the best way to do that. Once they have found you and they are telling their friends, the name could be anything at that point, it could be Dippydoa and they will go to him because their friend told them to, the name means next to nothing at that point.

The super catchy names that have no relevance to the company, just cute and catchy, there are tons of them, and if they are really successful it is because of marketing, lots of money spent, or it's because people found them thru word of mouth. No one runs to a business because it has a great name, they run to the business the first time because they may have a goods or service they NEED. The second time they go it's because they have had good service or found the goods they wanted, the name no longer means a thing, it is a building they are going to, they know the route from their home to that building, the name means nothing.

That all being said, a simple name that explains what they do is best, adding a personalization of their name like Greg connects people he casually knows by a name they can remember.

Short, to the point and personalized works best.

A friend of mine uses his name with "Rods and Restorations". He turns away business and also does well with gas pumps on the side.

How about, "Greg's Full Spectrum Rod Repair", it's just a thought but, if he fixes, builds and repairs Hot Rods, he's got almost everything covered in the name...if he does paint work as well...then the word spectrum really comes into play...like a full spectrum of color...Like I said just a thought.

If you like it great, if you don't...well I live to far away to be offended...LOL
