Yes, the trans is a 3 speed and looks like a Borg Warner t85 without OD but I have looked on several manuals and online and couldn't find any other like that. The side cover perimeter looks identical to all other BW 3 speed but not in the middle.

Yeah, the bulbous side cover threw me also. Long tail trans implies a truck or full size car.

Borg Warner T85 3 speed. Heavy duty version of their three speeds the lighter version being the T86 which has a straight line rather than curved on the bottom of the side cover. Neither has a synchronized low. The T85 is the forefather of the T10 4 speed which uses the T85 main case.

This looks like a FoMoCo version but nearly everybody making vehicles back in the 40’s thru mid 60’s used them.
