got a 355 with a tight lash circle track cam brand new street fire dist. after i broke a few pushrods last race from the motor pre igniting. I rebuilt it all and go to start it up and when i go to turn the dist. with the light on it. It retards(sends the tdc mark counterclockwise instead of clockwise) This is the second dist. if installed and still retards when i turn to advance the timing. Even tried making a mark on the balancer to see if it slip. any thoughts on this would be appreciated!

Looking down at the SBC timing cover scale it reads from left to right 16-12-8-4-0-4-8. Before top dead center is left of "0" and After top dead center is to the right of "0". Turning the distributor counterclockwise advances timing and clockwise retards timing.
