I just fixed my 1971 Olds 442 that has the identical column. At the inside bottom of your column is a switch that kinda wraps around the shaft. It is attached with two small hex headed screws. Loosen them the try to lock the column. If that doesn't work, maybe your transmission lever is out of whack. It attaches to the column under the hood right before the column disappears through the firewall. There will be a large round steel bar that runs down to the tranny. When you put the trans in park, that bar lifts a cog in the column and permits the removal of the key. It also prevents anyone from shifting your tranny into gear without the key being on.
