im putting my th350 up to my new motor. Do i Slide the torque converter on my tranny then bolt it to the flywheel that is bolted on the motor? or do i bolt the converter to the flywheel on the motor and slide the tranny on it? im a little confused.
Put it in the tranny first. Make sure it is all the way back.
When you bolt the tranny to the engine, you should still be able to spin the converter. After bolting the tranny and engine together, spin the converter to line up the holes to the ring gear.
When you install the converter on the trans make sure the pump is engaged. Slide the converter on and then rotate it slowly while pressing on it and it should engage the pump. When it does it will slide on about a half inch further. To make sure its on all the way put a straight edged on the front of the trans and the converter should be recessed a little less than an inch. Also when you bolt the trans up to the engine the converter should still spin freely. If it is wedged against the flexplate then the pump isn't engaged and if you tighten the bolts you stand a good chance of damaging the pump.
