Aah, the venerable Detroit Diesel two strokes. There's nothing quite like 'em. I bookmarked that one, way cool. Those engines were actually designed to be bolted back to back to create a single enigne. Two 8Vs could be bolted together to form a 16V and two 6Vs could be bolted together to form a 12V and so on.
I once had the opportunity to check out a Freightliner Century class race truck. It was built for the Pikes Peak hill climb and had an all aluminum 1200hp Mercedes V6 diesel. The truck weighed 10,000lbs and was capable of running 13s in the 1/4.
I only wish I had the kind of money to mess around with stuff like that.
