I have a '53 Customline sedan that I am transplanting an '86 T-bird 302 and
AOD trans into. Will the stock, low mile rearend (3.31 gears) hold up? I do not plan to race this setup, the 302 is stock with the EFI converted to carb. Help me out on this one. Thanks, Mike

That rearend in your 53 should do fine. Change the fluid, maybe install new axle seals just to be on the safe side, and you should haev many many years of Happy Motoring with your 302/auto up front.
If you're nervous, a nice 8inch Ford from under a Maverick, Mustang, Grenada or such will work just fine too and pretty easy to install. Just check the width from drum face to drum face for compatibility, your old wheels will bolt up with no problems.
