Is this the idle speed adjustment screw, right under the A?

Which way to turn down the idle?

counter clockwise.need to make sure the choke is all the way open.Brian

I took a look at it, and it is already adjusted all the way out.

But the idle still seems a bit high to me, around the 950 rpm range.

The base gasket is new. There aren't a lot of vacuum lines on it, but they are new, too. I've verified the choke is all the way open when warm. Timing is good, valves are adjusted, car runs great.

Any thoughts?

If the screw is all the way out the throttle blades inside should be closed all the way and it shouldn't run at idle. Just seems like something may be either holding the throttle open slightly or it's gotta vacuum leak somewhere??Brian

2 other things to check...
Make sure that the cold idle speed adjuster is not hanging up..that is on the chock side of carb, part of the linkage system..

Make sure the secondary blades are clsing properly.
