Is Jegs a rip off. would buying a BBC block from them be a really stupid thing to do, gimme some opinions on Jegs because its the only place i know of where i can get a brand new block and if u know of another place better, PLEEEEASE tell me!

Unless you are going to go pick it up, shipping to Canada will kill you. Is there not a local machine shop in your area that could rebuild one for you, or at least do the machine work?

I agree with Poncho62. That said Jegs and Summit Racing are both great mail order houses. Excellent quality parts and very good to deal with. I've been buying from both of them for years and have never had a problem.

I like Jegs and Summit. I thought I was going to have to send back a pair of headers I purchased a year ago from Jegs. Jegs didn't have any problem taking them back even though the return period was 90 days. The headers were un used naturally.

Ive never had a problem with em, but I try to support my local speed shops.
I realize they are often dont have things in stock, sometimes they cant match the prices, but some of that is the result of the big mail order places. It seems they are tring to compete again

I ordered some Summit guages a few years ago. Nice units, but by the time I got them, the shipping, exchange and duty doubled the price.

Not to hijack the thread but maybe to help his decision....upon buying from jegs or summit, are the parts with their names on them of good quality? Looking at some summit racing products and just curious.

I'd recommend buying an engine from someone like them, local parts houses seem to have a problem with selling engines with oddball bore sizes.(atleast around here)

I'm gonna add a new twist here. I've used Northern Auto Parts for my purchases and have been surprised at their cheap costs to freight to Australia. My recent order, which was last week, consists of an aluminum intake manifold, cam and lifters, timing gear set, valve springs and a few light items as well. Total shipping cost? Try $40! A set of iron heads worked out to be roughly $60 for shipping. They have a Merlin BBC and its shipping cost worked out to $99.75. Summit have never returned my email enquiries. Scoggin and Dickey did, but their shipping costs for iron heads was $399!

Summit and Jegs have price wars from what I have seen. Some times on Big brand name parts, there prices are the same. Other times I have seen Jegs cheaper and summit cheaper on things that are not like edelbrock or Holley. Both will price match so if ya see what ya need on one, check out the other. It has happened allot. I check stock and price at both for the same item and whoever has what I need and all of it, I price match and make one order. Both are free shipping right? Except on large items that need to be freight.

Both have some things that the other does not and I found that out.
Jegs has really nice, Great quality, but Cheap rear control arms. There own "jegs" brand. for your 70's A Body and others. Jegs had the lengths posted from bolt center to center, upper and lower rear, tube with urethane bushings. Nice parts already powder coated cheaper than I found anyplace.
I have had great results with both but for some reason, Holly is a little behind with there re-manufactured carbs ordered from Summit. Rebuilt Holley 800cfm dbl pump, man choke and it has been on back order for months. Not summits fault but I wounder if jegs has some in stock. Summit had them listed for a little bit the 800,s now they only rebuild or have listed 650's. They do not even list 750's. Holly must be swamped but how can you beat the price for a rebuilt from Holley. I would think it would be just as good as new?

my uncle always buys his intake manifolds and carbs and heads from summit (mostly edelbrock stuff).
He told me there's 2 ways to do it, you can have someone bring it to the border for you, or you tell them you want it ground shipped. He always does the ground shipping and he says is works out about the same price or cheper as buying one from Softys Speed Shop or canadian tire.

I have been screwed by Jeg's enought that I don't use them any more. They have shipped, or recommended the wrong parts a few times. They always return the wrong parts and send the right ones, but it sucks when your everyday car has to be on downtime.

Summit gets it right a lot more often. They ship the parts the fastest to me. I am an California.

I've never bought a thing from Jegs, and their website leaves a bunch to be desired.

I have seen members on a couple other forums I belong to that have nothing but problems with them.

I had a catalog a few years back and the only thing keeping me from them was the higher shipping rates, things might have changed since then but with a website like theirs I won't be finding out too soon.

I should try a catalog again.

We purchase regularly from Jegs, as well as Summit. They ship promptly and if we've ever had a problem with what we received, their return policy is excellent. As Poncho and Centerline mentioned, possibly checking around in your area for a new block may be more economical for you rather than paying a lot of $$$ for shipping to Canada.
