Hey, Shawn

Is there any reason I couldn't use carpeting intended for houses in my truck? The main reason I ask, is that I would have a real problem buying carpet that I can't see and touch in person. Photos can often be very misleading and there are some things I just hate buying "sight unseen."

Thanks.

For durability, house carpet would work. But for sewing binding it would be horrible, its got a pretty thick backing. And for looks, in my personal opinion, I have seen cars with house carpet and I hate it. I can always tell its house carpet and it looks cheap. And i would hate to try and mold that stuff over a tranny hump.

Any GOOD upholstery supplier will send you a small piece of the color and specific type of carpet you are interested in free of charge. Any supplier I deal with (Larry Dennis, Miami, Bill Hirsch, Veteran) will gladly send me samples upon request. They are usually about 3" square, which is plenty big to see what quality of carpet you are getting. Once again, any good supplier will send you your samples upon request FREE of charge. I hope Im talking you out of using house carpet in your truck...

be sure to get the looped kind. from past experience the cheeper stuff tends to not last as long and fuzz up.
then again the looped also tends to fade but nothing a little dye won't take care of.

Thanks, guys

Okay, Shawn ... you're talking me out of it - I know what you're saying, and I do want to do some sewing and form-fitting.

I want to find a medium gray carpet that has splotches or splatters or spots of lighter gray, darker gray, black and red.

Can you hook me up with anything like that?

Woah, your asking for too much there! Seriously though, I have never seen a carpet like that. Carpet is kind of hard to match in the first place. For example, there are over 100 colors of ultraleather, and most carpets come in around 15 colors or less. You could get a grey carpet that has specks of darker gray or black, or black with specks of lighter gray. But for the multicolor specks, I have never seen carpet like that.

Alan, Kris, interesting info. I would strongly say NO to home carpet. I made that mistake, because I could not find the right color in the right napp so went with high grade, stain proof home carpet. BIG MISTAKE!! It soils easily and I have to protect it all the time with mats and they walk all over the place with out velcro to anchor. I'm faced with basically riping out all but the headliner just to replace the carpet since carpet material is on the bottom of the kick, door and quarter panels Also, the entire trunk of the Coupe. YIKES!!

It figures that I would want something no one's ever seen.

How about the gray carpet with specs of darker gray or black -- do you have any samples or pics I could see?

Thanks, bro'.
