Worked on one project like this - best to spend the bucks and get a "specific kit" for the make and year of the car. The universal stuff, while cheaper is a real zoo unless you have access to the tools needed to make a universal kit "fit".

Funny question you ask here, "is it worth doing": It will most probably hurt the resale value of your car and will not make it better/easier/... to use. It is only worth it if you love it!
