dose anyone have any experience using coil over shocks to supplement leaf springs? I am working on putting my rear suspension back together on my 49 ford coupe. I am thinking of running only a couple leafs from the original leaf springs and then using coil overs in place of the shocks to make up the difference and add some adjustability. I'm just not sure how well the lightened leaf springs will hold the rear in place.

Some of the guys running IMCA cars use this type of suspension..

It is mandatory to install locating arms to control rear end "wind-up".. The coil overs are installed as fr out and as vertical as you can get them and still clear the tires and such..

Works fine if done correctly..:thumbup:

When we were racing sportsman cars on the dirt 1/2 mile, thewre was arule about coilovers that wouldn't allow you t use a total system but we used leafs with no loadbearing capabilitys just to keep the rear end in place. I think we also used a torque arm with this set up. Keep in mind that the stock shock mounts were not intended to support the weight of the car so you should plane on adding some new peices for upper mounts if you plan to do this.
