Hey Guys,
It is SSuperwrench again with another project going. We are in the process of working on that 1984 camaro 5.0 HO motor that you guys gave me advice with!! So far its going good ...for my son...now I (DAD) have my own project to compllete by July 10, 2007....I obtained a 1966 Ford Fairlane GTA...factory 390 auto trans, car is complete with 22,000 miles on it!!! It is all complete except for the motor..it has none!!!...I have a 1987 Lincoln 5.0 HO motor with 65,000 miles on it. It is equipped with F.I. but i am going to remove it and put a new perf mani and carb.Question time...would i be better off using the original c4 trans or use the electronic trans with the lincoln engine??...It is not going to be a track car....but i want nice throttle response when i hit it!!....im not concerned about gas mileage or inspection limits!!I have been told i am going to have a major problem with a diff dist for carb..They say the gear will always break on the dist because it is plastic???...why cant i change it to metal???Please help ..im pressed for time to do swap...car must be in body shop for paint by May 15,2007.....SSUPERWRENCH

Done several.

The AOD is not electronic until 93. Just the normal TV cable. Existing trans mount moves back 2 inches.

Doing the SFI is simple, done several. Carb will not be more responsive than SFI.

Roller cam requires a different material distributor gear. Just use a normal Ford Duraspark electronic dist from the late 70s and change the gear.

If you want to stay fuelie, like me,
Except for computer + and -, and the fuel pump circuit.... there are only 3 SFI wires to hook up to old harness. It is simple and easy.

Done several.
My personal car is a 63 Fairlane 2 dr ht with 5.0 fuelie (92 Mustang) and T-5, disc brakes, AC etc.

PM if you need more help.

edited= Are you SURE the Lincoln engine is HO ?? not the 150 hp one?

Just double checked. It must be an 87 or newer Mark 7 LSC only to be an HO engine. It will be speed density SFI.

They do pretty well with carbs, even though the cam is not optimal.

Edelbrock Air Gap and Edel 600 work real well.
By the way, the dist gear from the fuelie roller cam dist should fit on the duraspark distributor.
When I put a 5.0 in a 66 mustang I used the gear from the 5.0 on theold distributor. Also if you decide to use the c4 trans you will need a special flexplate that is 50 oz instead of the older 28oz unless the lincoln was different but I dont think they were. I installed mine with a carb but have decided to do the efi part now. If you have all the efi parts I would use that.
Let the carb vs fuelie wars begin...

I think it's pretty funny though, each has their ups and downs.
i would like to see some pics of the car.i have a 66 gt 390.
you might want to make sure that don't have a c6 some came that way and i'm trying to think of the site to read the vin. i don't know what happend to the paper.
Fuh Git Abut It....build a stroker FE and plop back in it. Or don't. If it's a GTA 390 car it would have a c6 in it. As for the EFI 5.0L motor it would be Speed density for 1987-88. 1989 saw MAF for the first time unless you were in California then 1988 would be MAF engine. But I still say go with a 466cid stroker :mwink:
