Hi, its been 20 years since I saw the reno nevada hot august nights car show that had all kinds of hot rods including tons of 57 chevys. Some of the rat rod open engine cars had neon glass tube lights inline with the spark plug wires. I cant seem to find any videos or information good or bad on them. The wife wants me to find videos on them. Anyway, these cars looked cool at night, when revved. They had the look of spider legs being 8 cylinders. All I get on youtube when searching is the dam dodge neon plug wire tube repair. Any drawbacks to using this type of setup?

The only type I would even consider using would be the type that has an envelope of neon gas surrounding the wire. The wire induces a current into the neon when the plug fires, this causes the neon to fluoresce.Translucent covers were used to get the different colors. Any that would use a spark jumping a gap (think inline spark plug tester) I wouldn't use on a bet. Too much current lost and excessive wear and tear on the ignition system in general, IMHO.

I don't recall seeing them around for YEARS, though. Back in the day they were a novelty, didn't seem to last very well at all. I'm sure the durability would be improved today- if you can find them, that is!
