Found this at a local junkyard and was told it was a Model A. Well I believed the guy and was surprised he only wanted $700 for it.

Went back there today and it turns out it's a chrysler, year is unknown but I got part of the VIN. It appears to be a 4 door sedan, suicide doors. No engine or tranny but it's got both axels and is a rolling frame. No interior basically. I also found more cars today, gonna post pics of them later.

What is this worth?

look good from the picture...

a title may be very difficult to obtain. Thats more like a parts car for somebody who has a car with a title.

The hard part of that project is actually finding one that someone wants to part with....$700...snag that beotch up. As far as a title goes...$130, and about 2 weeks wait will get you a title.

Looks like it has had swinging petals and or a power Brake booster on it. What kind of running gear does it have? Builders title $20.00 in Ar.

find out about titling it FIRST!!

You must be able to put it on the road to be able to use it. He's not in AR so a home built title may be more difficult to get in BC and all the paper work and BS you go through at least here in OHIO its not worth buying a car without a LEGAL TITLE!! I beleave the price reflects the fact there is no title so be careful your not Stuck with it and can't do anything with it. Shop Hemming motor news for people selling titles and see if somebody there can help you FIRST. It might help it you knew what year it was supposed to be...a guess won't help you much when titling it.

Do you think that all the old rusty Bodys that have been pulled out of the woods had titles?? If a person let that stop them from building hotrods or restoring them, there would not be very many built. A title is the least worry when building a rod. Finding the year model would be just a few min. looking at some books.

I don't know if the rules in Winnipeg are a lot different than British Columbia, but my '32 was scratch built in Vancouver (no body, no vin etc) and the builder gets them titled that way all the time. I believe he just presents all the bills of sale for the parts and pieces on the car and a vin is then assigned and vin tags attached to the frame and body. You should be able to check out the requirements in Winnipeg without much difficulty.

On the car it says: U SEDAN 053 (or 7)

My uncle adviced me to stay away from it because there are no aftermarket parts available....true or false?

Mike

About the paperwork, no problem. All I need is a bill of sale and I can get it road legal.

Titles aren't all that hard to get in Canada, but its going to get tougher here real shortly from what I'm told.

Find out if you can get parts for the car first. Nothing would be more frusterating than buying a car like that, only to find out parts for it are worth a mint. It would turn a project real expensive. That said, you could probably turn around and sell for more money it if you find out parts are too pricey.

Whats missing? Just the grill, grill shell, and hood? If so I'd buy it.

bonuts

Forgot to ask, does it have the VIN plate on the firewall (I'd assume thats where it would be) cause if it does getting paperwork for the car is easy.

Resale it and triple your money. 99. 99% of any car can be bought new or used. if not make them. There is not much you would have to find on that one, it looks fairly complete.

Thanks guys, it's got the number on the firewall like I posted before.

Now it says Body Number, is that the vin or not?

the body number..

looks like a style number, not enough numbers for a vin. Look at the tag after cleaning it up a bit, get the dirt off it, don't sand it, you'll loose definition on the tag if you do. Parts for anything old cost a bundle but you might get lucky if its all there and just put it back together. What missing? Is the grill and radiator shell inside? How about the hood, where is the hood?

More pics as promised

and one more (sorry for the dial up guys)

one last one

that's my friend peaking in.

What's missing:
- hood (I'd like to run it hoodless anyways)
- radiator shell and grill
-engine and tranny
-glass
-interiror
-locks
-some of the glass function thingies that get it up and down

Now some questions,
1) How easy/hard will it be to find glass for it? It's got wood in bewteen the doors and where the glass goes
2) Floorboard are there but a bit rusted, can I just weld a whole sheet of metal in?
3) Rear end, will it take an SBC?
4) Roof, just weld a sheet of metal over?

Thanks,

Mike

one more I guess

Yeah...aftermarket parts aren't available...so I wouldn't buy it either:rolleyes:
Take him to a Goodguys show once, and let him see all of the cars that were built with strictly aftermarket parts....very very few.
Does he think that you can go to PepBoys and order an aftermarket choptop or aftermarket body channeling?!

Yeah, and how many of those cars at "GoodGuys" are built by low budget teenagers? Not many, I'll bet. If parts aren't available it wouldn't be cheap (like any street rods are cheap) but it would cost more dough. Still it'd be worth buying if you wanted to sell it for more.

Obviously you haven't seen the 'RatRod' section at GoodGuys(maybe not all teenagers, but very low budget)?!There is also a group of teens that GoodGuys supports, called the YoungGuns.
Anyways....why do most people think that for something to be a nice rod, that it has to cost a fortune? If it were me, I would buy it and build what I needed Body/frame/suspension-wise. There are literally thousands of cars sitting at the wrecking yards waiting for someone to buy parts off of them to use for something else. He could build that complete car for a few thousand(read that about 5-6 G's) including the price of the car. Once something is driveable, parts can always be upgraded as money allows.

I know that junkyard! last time I was there that car wasn't missin so many parts. did you see that late 30s plymouth in the back of the yard? its a lil more complete than that one. thats all flat glass on that car so any good glass place can cut new windows for it. missing window regulators? big deal! go back to the junkyard and find some from a newer car/pickup and make em work. floorboards are an easy fix but the roof is a lil trickier. will it take a small block? that thing will take any motor you wanna throw in it, but box the frame first or you'll twist the snot outa it. same with the rear end, just find one that works and make it fit. you don't need allot of aftermarket stuff fer it, just allot of imagination. yer gonna hotrod the damn thing after all, not restore it.
