Hey guys,
What would you do?....
My brother found a 1971 Dodge step-side pickup, Short-box, with a slant 6.
It does not run, but isn't locked up. It's pretty solid. He MIGHT be able to get it for $400-500. But the owner doesn't have a title. :( The truck came from Alabama, and he said they only require a bill of sale. Well, we're in TN, and you gota have a title! What is involved in getting another title, or is it even worth it?
Thanks for any and all help,
BBBanjo

If the truck came from anywhere it has a VIN and a registration on some computer unless it has been dumped because it hasn't been registered in 10 years or more. Yes, Alabama vehicles before 1974 or so were not issued titles and could and can be sold on Bills of Sale. There should be no reason that Tennessee would not accept that paperwork IF it was issued by an owner in Alabama. I would always have the paperwork notarized when going out of state no matter where.
The important thing is to check with the Alabama Dept of Motor Vehicles or Public Safety or whatever agency handles such things. Give them all the information you have, VIN, last license plate number, and owner's name. If all is legit, get the proper paperwork and transfer the trcuks registration to TN where you will be issed a title since the vehicle is to be a Tennessee truck from now on. If you, and the seller, do the paperwork by the law, you should have no trouble at all.

Call your local DMV office. They'll have all the information you'll need.
